One of the pieces that got the resin treatment a few evenings ago was this pendant (previously a spoon). A snippet of text from a vintage book of Longfellow poems is now encased in epoxy resin. The weather has been lovely these last days of spring break, capturing the spirit of Longfellow's words. My lettuce, spinach and peas are growing, somehow remaining off the rabbit radar. My one lilac is in bloom, the daffodils and tulips are a burst of color in the backyard and the pollen is wrecking havoc on my eyes and throat.
I got busy at my workbench capturing the loveliness of the season and honoring Longfellow, bringing back memories of when, in 3rd or 4th grade, I had to memorize his 'The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere'. I don't recall if I ever fully mastered the poem back then, but parts of it remain locked in my memory.
I drilled a hole in the top of the spoon handle and then wrapped it with sterling wire. I selected semi-precious gemstones (amethyst, prehnite, citrine, clear quartz) with gentle, soothing colors that make me think of Spring. The gemstones were wrapped with sterling wire and connected to two types of sterling chain.
Hmmmm....I thought I was done, but now I'm considering a liver of sulfur treatment, oxidizing the chain and wire so that it better matches the lovely patina of the spoon handle/pendant.
I sometimes don't know when to stop.
